Diverse options
Truly multi-talented
With its new S.BO MULTI, Schmitz Cargobull has showcased a particularly flexible dry freight box body semi-trailer. Thanks to its equipment, it can be adapted quickly and flexibly to a wide array of transport tasks.

By combining a double-decker system and keyhole plates, the new S.BO MULTI is truly multi-talented.
With its S.BO MULTI dry freight box body semi-trailer, Schmitz Cargobull is fulfilling multiple requirements in one fell swoop. From palletised goods, piece goods, vehicle components, packages, hanging clothing, bulky or loose items, cargo can be loaded perfectly and secured in line with best practice. “The S.BO MULTI has been developed to deliver maximum flexibility,” says David Sierra, Product Manager for Dry Freight + Intermodal at Schmitz Cargobull.
The trailer’s versatility is based on a clever interior equipment package, which combines a built-in double-decker system with keyhole plates on the walls. “The double-decker system can accommodate up to 67 Euro pallets: 34 at the bottom and 33 at the top,” explains Sierra. Double-decker beams are used to create the second loading deck. Hooked into aluminium rails at intervals of 1,200 mm, each beam is designed to hold 1,000 kg. As such, the top deck alone is able to hold loads of up to two tonnes in weight, spread across three pallets.
Smart, precision solutions
A closed upper loading deck equipped with fold-out flooring is available as an option. It is especially well-suited to mixed package transport. Heavy loads can be secured at the bottom, while lighter packages can be stacked on the closed top deck as an efficient and space-saving transport solution. “When combined with a load securing tarpaulin, cargo can be reliably secured, or the cargo area can even be divided up into multiple zones,” says Sierra, describing the benefits offered by the double-decker option. The tarpaulin is hooked into keyhole plates on both sides that run the entire length of the vehicle.
And the closed second loading deck on the S.BO MULTI can still be used to full capacity, even when the flooring is folded in. Another three Euro pallets can be loaded next to one another, either directly on the vehicle floor or on the trailer’s double-decker beams. As such, the S.BO MULTI really lives up to its multi-talented reputation.
The reinforced keyholes offer an array of further options, starting with high-precision load securing through to the use of clamping beams, clothing rails, tensioning belts or tarpaulins.

What’s more, the galvanised steel plates are easy to repair, contributing to short downtimes, low maintenance costs, and a high level of availability in fleet operations. “In the event of more significant damage, the top and bottom profiles can be opened with ease to replace the entire plate. Smaller-scale damage can be repaired using moulded parts. And that’s without any need for intricate specialist tools or welding work,” explains Sierra. Indeed, the manufacturing process foregoes the traditional welding technology, relying instead on bonding and folding techniques. This reduces the amount of energy consumed and, as a result, also cuts CO₂ emissions.

The rear is available with aluminium doors or Schmitz Cargobull’s popular roller shutter.
Robust and durable design
The double-decker rails and keyhole plates are secured to pillars integrated into the side walls, which themselves are made from a galvanised cavity steel construction. “This patented technique enables us to achieve the ultimate robust and durable design. "Depending on the requirements, we offer side walls for two different interior heights: 2,700 mm or 2,900 mm in the MEGA version,” emphasises Sierra.
As part of Schmitz Cargobull’s modular dry freight system, the S.BO MULTI also utilises a number of proven components, such as a bulkhead made of aluminium planks, an insulated roof made of Ferroplast, and full-length steel connecting profiles to join all add-on parts together. At the rear, users can choose between aluminium doors or an optional aluminium roller shutter from Schmitz Cargobull, which is particularly well-suited to urban transport. The full range of assist systems is also available, including tyre pressure monitoring, brake wear indicators, flashing side marker lights and an electronic ramp approach aid.

Configured the way you want it
The body is certified according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL (payload of 27,000 kg) and equipment packages are also available for rail transport, ferry transport, cross-border transport and hazardous goods ADR EX/II. For the chassis, the vehicle is available with a modular, bolted and galvanised design, manufactured using rolling techniques and designed for standard transport requirements. For heavier-duty requirements and markets that permit a total vehicle combination weight of over 44 t, there is the option of the X-TOUGH heavy-duty chassis. And no matter what configuration is used, the TrailerConnect® telematics system is integrated as standard.
The S.BO MULTI is ideally suited for use in logistics centres, production locations and industrial settings with a changing roster of load and load-securing requirements. Or, as David Sierra sums it all up: “The S.BO MULTI embodies economic design, efficiency, and flexibility: a dry freighter that can cope with almost any load.”
